This position is expected to continue as long as start-up funds or grant funds are available to support the position.

Purpose

Under supervision of the Research Director, the Research Coordinator supports a faculty member in the Department of Population Health in carrying out her research agenda regarding asthma, allergies, and environmental health. The range of duties includes, but is not limited to: overseeing research assistants, assisting the research director in implementing study protocols, study participant recruitment/interviews, data collection, data entry, organizing collected information, records management, and communicating with team members on the status of project(s).

Responsibilities

Assist the Research Director with the implementation, and coordination of the Asma Guárdian research project and other projects as determined. Help prepare IRB and other regulatory applications, renewals, and amendments and assist with necessary IRB training requirements. Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs. Maintain manual of procedures for each study assigned.

Coordinate the development of the Asma Guárdian web platform/app and tool kits working in close collaboration with the company/person creating the platforms.

Manage the formation of focus groups and subsequent meetings and appointments. Collaborate with group facilitators and community health workers. Develop and implement strategies for study recruitment and retention of participants, which will include children and their families. Act as primary contact for study participants, which may include scheduling, confirming appointments, and directing to various locations.

Assist in the development of the data capture and management system and the development of data QA/QC. Use a variety of software and database technologies, including RedCap, Excel, and the study web platform/app. Enter all required focus group coding transcription and study data on an ongoing basis.

Assist writing job descriptions, interview, train, motivate and supervise additional study staff under direction of the Research Director. Ensure studies are conducted according to standard operating procedures and staff adhere to study protocols and procedures. Ensure compliance of QA/QC activities related to studies.

Maintain working relationships with other study teams both internal and external to the institution and act as a contact between research director and other partners. Participate in weekly study team meetings and regular trainings and in-services with the study team.

Assist with the TexHALE study, already in progress, by working with the study team to conduct study participant assessments, which may include lung function testing, vital signs, allergy testing, and collection of biologic specimens such as nasal mucus, saliva, urine and blood specimens. Conduct home visits and environmental sample collection and assist with study recruitment.

Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years experience required. Fluent in Spanish. Experience working in a medical or scientific research setting, or comparable health-or social services-oriented organization. Demonstrated organizational skills. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to discuss personal topics with research participants in a compassionate, sensitive manner with an understanding of the ethical as well as HIPAA requirements. Demonstrated detail orientation, ability to follow-through, and strong problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word and willingness to learn other technologies. Ability to work independently and on a team. Access to a car for traveling to locations on/off campus including participant homes and partner organization health clinics. Outgoing and engaging personality, comfortable interacting one-on-one with diverse populations of study participants. Finalist is required to complete Ascension Seton Research Affiliate application and UT Health Worklife Screening process, part of this involves proof of and/or completion of immunizations for our affiliates approval. Additional education may substitute for experience. Preferred Qualifications

Focus group experience. Community experience generally, preferably as a certified Community Health Work or working with CHWs. Comfortable with technology and interacting with a group or company building the website/app.

Salary Range

$37,908 + depending on qualifications
