Paragon is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to be a part of its Innovation Team. This team is responsible for developing new systems and components for a variety of upcoming Small Modular Reactors (SMR’s). This is an exciting opportunity in First-Of-A-Kind (FOAK) reactor designs and the ability to collaborate with peers in a fast-paced design team environment. Responsibilities include development of parts using SOLIDWORKS and quick turns of conceptual drawings and part designs that will be developed into overall system designs to meet customer specifications. The successful candidate would be part of a small, agile, multi-discipline engineering team to creatively solve complex problems. New concepts and ideas would be developed into qualified designs, leading into production. The team operates within a robust quality assurance program, highly regulated industry, and safety-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Work will be performed under company’s Nuclear Quality Assurance Program.
  • Work includes development of Design Products in support of Nuclear Plant construction and operation.
  • Design of products shall be in accordance with Paragon design procedures.
  • The individual must hold applicable Qualifications (e.g., Design, Calculation, Design Verification) and be proficient in the process.
  • Mechanical Design engineers will develop designs (e.g., piping, bracketing, enclosures, low pressure sealed systems) with peers in the Innovation team.
  • Individual will create first issue drawings, develop revisions, complete post modification testing, and turnover of design products.
  • Implementation follows a Site schedule, and the individual may be required to support the design implementation off normal hours.
  • Applies strong knowledge and background of engineering and scientific principles and practices in a variety of assignments.
  • Works within critical projects or field engineering assignments that are wide ranging from small or simple to large or complex.
  • Performs engineering studies, proposing solutions or recommending alternatives.
  • Prepares presentation materials of engineering-related projects.
  • Utilizes models and analyzes data to support improvement and solutions.
  • Conducts studies and analyses to assist in the resolution of engineering-related issues.
  • Works in a dynamic team with multi-discipline engineers and technicians.
  • Develop prototypes including utilizing 3D printing as applicable.
  • Prepare Documentation in accordance with industry and Paragon procedures, including documenting design calculations, inspection processes and acceptance criteria, seismic and aging procedures, basis for manufacturing tolerances.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineer and minimum of 4 years of job relevant experience
  • Must have professional level knowledge of Solidworks or other similar CAD software, ANSYS, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) 3-D modeling.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to help clarify and develop initial concepts into robust designs.
  • Must be able to quickly create concept models and drawings to support and stimulate team discussions.
  • Must be able to confidently offer ideas into an open and dynamic team design discussion.
  • Must have in-depth mathematical knowledge; algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Must have technical, analytical, communication, and time management skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to manage your daily work based on priority of multiple projects.
  • Experience in nuclear or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience with seismic testing is a plus.
  • Experience developing prototypes.
  • Experience with specifying welding in design documentation/drawings.
  • Expected to have strong problem-solving skills, capable of coming up with creative approaches for generating new ideas and improving existing processes or products within the bounds of quality and industry regulations.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and written. A strong candidate must be able to communicate with any and all levels and groups within the organization, and shall be able to do so whilst maintaining business professionalism.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
