Senior Software Engineer, Accountant Experience

Who You Are

As a Senior Software Engineer at Justworks, you will bring significant experience and expertise to the team. You will have worked in different systems, recognized and employed various design patterns, and have had to troubleshoot and resolve production issues. Senior engineers at Justworks are able to provide feedback and guidance for product specifications, and then take those specifications and generate a technical plan or specification document. They are trusted with the implementation of features or projects, typically pairing with other engineers to accomplish the task.

You will work closely with product managers, user experience designers, and senior engineers to scope, design, and build new features and functionality in the Accountant Experience vertical. Cross-team (and cross-organization) efforts are particularly important for the Accountant Experience vertical, as our objectives often require data or functionality sourced from anywhere, or provided to any team. We often say “accounting is everywhere.” Our teams are cross-functional (not only engineering, product, design, and product marketing, but also business and operations along with other supporting roles).

Your Success Profile

What You Will Work On

• Lead team projects involving multiple engineers
• Work collaboratively with other engineers, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to build features and functionality that our customers use directly, typically in an iterative fashion taking into account user feedback. For the Accountant Experience vertical, our customers are typically accountants, bookkeepers, financial admins, etc.
• Work across different applications and codebases
• Be a clear subject matter expert for a specific technology and its application in supporting our business
• Provide thorough reviews of other engineer’s PRs, including advocating for quality/tests, security, observability, performance, and scalability
• Complete ambiguous tasks independently
• Help set and modify scope for the team’s tasks, and set reasonable expectations for completion
• Contribute to team retrospectives and continuous improvement
• Represent their team in working groups and/or organizational efforts, promoting knowledge sharing
• Lead software incident response within the scope of the team’s expertise
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of professional hands-on experience in software engineering

• Experience building new features from scratch, using clean, organized, and scalable code
• Experience working with multiple, interconnected systems at scale

• Experience leading engineering projects involving multiple engineers

• Experience proactively collaborating across different engineering teams
• Experience working using Agile/Scrum methodology in a fast-paced environment

• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design, and their practical applications
• Preference for experience in Ruby on Rails, Go, React, and/or View.js

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $167,500.00 to $205,000.00 per year.
