Our client, a leading commercial subcontractor with nationwide operations. They are currently seeking an Assistant Controller to join their team.

SALARY/HOURLY RATE:

$95,000 – $130,000

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Assistant Controller will play a pivotal role in providing financial guidance and expertise to the regional operating units. This Assistant Controller position involves collaborating closely with the accounting team and regional leadership to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and informed decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ASSISTANT CONTROLLER:

  • Monthly Financial Statements: Preparing accurate and timely monthly financial statements to provide insight into regional financial performance
  • Account Reconciliations: Conducting meticulous account reconciliations to ensure the integrity of financial data
  • Sales and Use Tax Returns: Preparing and filing sales and use tax returns in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Payroll Tax Monitoring: Monitoring payroll tax reporting to maintain compliance and accuracy in the payroll process
  • Work in Progress Reports: Generating work in progress reports for operations meetings, aiding in project tracking and decision-making
  • Operations Meetings: Attending operations meetings to provide financial insights and support decision-making
  • Project Cost Analysis: Assisting in conducting project cost analysis for larger bids, contributing to informed pricing strategies
  • Cost Standards Development: Developing labor burden and overhead cost standards, continually monitoring and adjusting them as necessary
  • Project Card Setup: Reviewing and ensuring accurate setup of new Project Cards for efficient financial tracking
  • Overhead Cost Management: Overseeing the absorption of overhead costs to optimize cost allocation
  • Cost-to-Complete Estimates: Creating estimates of costs to complete on bonded jobs to facilitate financial planning
  • Contract Profit Reporting: Completing Contract Profit reports, reconciling GL to Project Cards for accurate financial reporting
  • Inventory Control: Assisting in developing and implementing inventory control procedures, monitoring inventory levels, and advising on optimization strategies
  • Physical Inventory Oversight: Overseeing physical inventories to maintain accurate records
  • Resource Allocation: Managing resource sharing between regional units to enhance efficiency
  • Ad Hoc Tasks: Undertaking any other tasks as required by the Regional Controller to support the financial success of the region

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ASSISTANT CONTROLLER:

  • Extensive Job Costing experience
  • 5+ years of experience in construction accounting
  • Proficiency in WIP reports and project-based accounting
  • Working knowledge on an accounting ERP system. (ex. Sage)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required
  • Master’s degree or CPA is preferred
