Senior Software Engineer
The ExecuteD team builds the Compute@Edge platform, Fastly’s new way to run serverless code with fast startup times and strong isolation guarantees. Leveraging the WebAssembly standards and toolchains, the team develops a high-scale daemon that safely hosts customers’ code and connects to a large and growing variety of Fastly back-end services.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join this multifaceted team and help scale our hosting infrastructure. In addition to nuts-and-bolts networking and systems-level work, this role will involve cross-team collaboration, and designing high quality APIs for our customers to use services developed by other teams. There is also ample opportunity to contribute to open source projects (like ) that are key parts of the Compute@Edge story.
What You’ll Do
- Write Rust code that handles host concerns like back pressure, resource limits, and interactions with other services
- Collaborate with other teams at Fastly on interfaces to Compute@Edge services
- Design and implement both low- and high-level APIs for interacting with edge services
- Analyze and address performance and stability issues to meet high scale requirements
- Contribute to the Rust and WebAssembly open source ecosystems
Work Hours: This position will require you to be available during core business hours.
What We’re Looking For
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience with high-reliability systems programming, ideally in Rust
- Experience with networking/distributed/cloud systems
- Comfortable writing asynchronous, concurrent code
- Pragmatic approach, with a willingness to invest as much energy into maintenance as into new code
- Interest in mentoring within the team through coaching, delegation, and reviews
- Formal CS education is not required; demonstrable experience is sufficient
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Rust or other systems languages
- Experience with API design in functional languages
- Understanding of security concerns in multi-tenant systems
- Experience with and interest in technical writing
- Interest in open source contribution

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.
This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.
Salary
The estimated salary range for this position is $132,060 to $194,210.
Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
