Position Function
Assist in providing support and permitting services under the supervision and direction of the Public Works & Utilities Development Manager, primarily related to the protection and preservation of the City’s utility infrastructure (water, reclaimed water, and sanitary sewer).
Tasks/Duties
- Assist in providing support services for the Public Works and Utilities Department under the supervision and direction of the Public Works & Utilities Development Manager related to the protection, preservation and identification of city owned utility infrastructure (water, reclaimed water and sanitary sewer).
- Project management support of capital projects, as assigned by the Public Works & Utilities Development Manager.
- Process permanent and temporary meter requests & sanitary sewer connections.
- Review private development projects for compliance with City code and standards. Serve when needed as Department’s representative to the Development Review Committee (DRC).
- Provide record drawing and utility review requests for Public Works and Utility Department.
- Manage and review right-of-way and driveway permits and conduct inspections, as needed.
- Process other Public Works & Utilities permits as assigned by Public Works & Utilities Development Manager and City Engineer.
- Perform field evaluations and inspections, as required.
- Drive to and from City work sites. Perform additional duties as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four (4) years engineering technician experience in a municipal Public Works environment. An equivalent combination of direct field supervision and/or experience in utility location or plan review may be substituted for engineering technician experience on a year for year basis.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Experience with the Sunshine One-Call of Florida system.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel in a Windows environment.
- Valid driver license (must obtain State of Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment).
PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Engineering technician certification through the National Institute of Certified Engineering Technicians (NICET) or equivalent program.
- Experience with engineering software applications.
- Completion of Maintenance of Traffic Training (Must complete within two (2) years)
- Completion of the following NIMS Courses within the designated amount of time from hire date:
- Basic IS-700 (6 months)
- Basic ICS-100 (6 months)
Supplemental Information
Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a Level 1 background screening.
Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
