As Medical Coding Supervisor will oversee the daily operational production of the coder departments by ensuring that the department is working in accordance with company procedures and policies. This individual will be a key contributor to the development and retention which includes recruiting and performance management operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare clinical statistics and reports
  • Coding and Reimbursement Management
  • Advance Coding Skills, ICD-10-CM and CPT
  • Works collaboratively with providers and other caregivers to obtain complete documentation to support the assignment of MS-DRGs
  • Responsible for hiring, training, developing, and managing the performance of Medical Coders
  • Serves as direct and primary contact to the hospitals to provide coverage and systems access where needed
  • Works closely with manager/director in managing day to day operations
  • Oversees daily operational activities, including scheduling and coordinating work assignments
  • Conducts monthly quality audits for coding staff and provide feedback
  • Monitors all relevant EPIC & 3M HDM coding work queues daily, and assigns work to Inpatient Coding Specialists to ensure timely coding and billing
  • Responsible for the development and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures
  • Coaches’ employees and initiates corrective action when necessary
  • Performs all duties necessary to ensure the success of the team
  • Excellent Interpersonal, written, and oral skills, building relationships, influencing and negotiation

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate Degree in Health Information Management or Coding Certificate in Health Information Management (AHIMA, AAPC).
  • Credentialing in one of the following areas: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) CIRCC, RCCB, CPC, COC, CIC, CCS, or CCS-P certification.
  • 5 years inpatient coding experience, in health care facility or physician office including 2 years of supervisory lead or manager experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of health care billing operations and requirements of payers Window-based PC skills, Microsoft Office, and automated computer systems
  • Excellent English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Health Information Management or Bachelors of Arts in a health-related field
  • Epic Experience
