The White House announced Thursday $300 million for nine bridge projects in rural and urban areas of the United States, as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure law passed last year.
In a statement, the White House said in all, the bridges “serve over 230,000 vehicles combined per day, and the investments will save taxpayers time and money by reducing congestion and making long-overdue improvements.”
To highlight the various projects, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will visit the Arland D. Williams Jr. Memorial Bridge in Washington; Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will visit upstate New York; and Senior Advisor and White House Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu will visit Madison, Wisconsin.
The White House says other senior administration officials will host events across the country Thursday in California, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, and South Carolina to highlight other bridge projects receiving grant funds from the infrastructure law’s Bridge Investment Program.
The nine projects include the repair, rehabilitation, and/or replacement of the bridges. The White House statement said the bridge investment program to date has funded more than 4,600 bridge repair and replacement projects across the country.
Thursday’s events wrap up the White House’s three-week “Investing in America tour.” Since March 28, President Joe Biden, Vice President Harris, and 20 senior administration officials have traveled to at least 50 cities and towns in 25 states and territories across the country, promoting projects funded by the infrastructure law.
