The anticipation of a growth-oriented Budget also drove the gains in the domestic market for the second consecutive session.<\/p>\n<p>The Nifty advanced to breach the 12,300-mark for the first time ever but closed off the day\u2019s high. Nifty50 gained 40.90 points to close at 12,256.80. Sensex gained by 147.37 points to close at 41,599.72 points.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest gainer on the Nifty50 was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/coal-india-ltd-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Coal India<\/a> followed by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/infosys-ltd-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Infosys<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/ultratech-cement-ltd-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ultratech Cement<\/a>. Shares of Infosys rose by 1.71% to close at Rs 740 a piece on the announcement of their earnings. On the downside, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/yes-bank-ltd-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yes Bank<\/a>, Zee Entertainment and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/indusind-bank-ltd-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IndusInd Bank<\/a> were the biggest losers.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining the reason for the day\u2019s gains, UR Bhat, director, Dalton Capital Advisors (India), said: \u201cThe markets were worried about the US-Iran conflict but this seems to be easing since, the US announced that no one was hurt in the missile attack and Iran seems to be backing down. The markets seem to be responding to a possible de-escalation in the conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bhat added that the results season was around the corner and that could be contributing to the gains in the market. At the peak of US-Iran tensions, crude had spiked to $70 a barrel last week, but cooled to $65.35 a barrel.<\/p>\n<p>Sectorally, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/nifty-realty-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nifty Realty<\/a> gained the most, followed by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/nifty-metal-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nifty Metal<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/nifty-auto-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nifty Auto<\/a>. Among the broader markets, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/nifty-midcap-50-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nifty Midcap 50<\/a> gained 0.45% and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/nifty-smallcap-50-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nifty Smallcap 50<\/a> gained 0.89%. According to Vinod Nair, head of research, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/market\/stock-market\/geojit-financial-services-ltd-stock-price\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Geojit Financial Services<\/a>, the markets had moved to a pre-budget rally. \u201cThe market has moved ahead of geo-political tension to pre-budget rally due to solid expectations with growth as a key agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Overnight, the Wall Street took the lead and and ended the day in green. India\u2019s Asian peers also gained with Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan ending the day in green.
