In a similar vein, Height\u2019s analysts said the PFAS Action Act \u201cwould increase liabilities for PFAS manufacturers like 3M and Chemours, while benefiting water remediation companies like Evoqua &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n                            &#13;<br \/>\n                            &#13;<br \/>\n                                  &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n                                  &#13;<br \/>\n                                    <span class=\"quote down bgQuote\" data-channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202309805\/composite\" data-bgformat=\"\"><a class=\"qt-chip trackable\" data-fancyid=\"XNYSStockAQUA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/investing\/stock\/aqua\" data-track-mod=\"MW_story_quote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AQUA, <span class=\"bgPercentChange\">-0.22%<\/span><\/a><\/span>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n                            &#13;<br \/>\n                                  &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n      &#13;<br \/>\n                                        \u00a0.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beacon\u2019s team also said the bill \u201cwill generate headlines, but little substantive action until at least late 2020. Expect more action this year, however, from state officials, who have begun to step up in the face of federal inaction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s be very clear, PFAS is an urgent public health and environmental threat,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/debbiedingell.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=2053\" target=\"_new\" class=\"icon \" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dingell said in a statement Friday<\/a> after her bill won the House\u2019s approval. \u201cWe all must work together to protect human health and our environment. Further inaction only means more people continue to be poisoned and contamination spreads further.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the week, <a href=\"https:\/\/debbiedingell.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=2047\" target=\"_new\" class=\"icon \" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">she said PFAS compounds<\/a> were \u201cforever chemicals\u201d that \u201cpersist everywhere and are linked to cancer, liver disease, thyroid dysfunction and decreased fertility.\u201d The substances have been used in stain-repellent and nonstick products, paints, coatings and many other items.<\/p>\n<p>The White House, for its part, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/SAP_HR-535.pdf\" target=\"_new\" class=\"icon \" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said Tuesday<\/a> that it\u2019s \u201caware of the public concern regarding PFAS and is committed to responding to this important public health issue,\u201d but the House bill \u201crisks undermining public confidence in the EPA\u2019s decisions, and also risks the imposition of unnecessary costs on states, public water systems and others responsible for complying with its prescriptive mandates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>3M, the American Chemistry Council and the Sierra Club are among the 29 organizations that have reported lobbying on the PFAS Action Act, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/federal-lobbying\/bills\/summary?start=1&amp;page_length=25&amp;id=hr535-116&amp;\" target=\"_new\" class=\"icon \" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">analysis of disclosures by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The American Chemistry Council, a trade group that counts 3M, DuPont and Chemours among its members, said in a statement Friday that it\u2019s \u201ccommitted to finding ways to address potential concerns with PFAS chemistries,\u201d but it opposes the House bill because it \u201ctakes scientific questions out of the hands\u201d of the Environmental Protection Agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe EPA\u2019s career scientists have the expertise needed to examine PFAS and that EPA should retain its traditional authority to study potentially hazardous substances,\u201d the trade association said.<\/p>\n<p>3M issued a statement late Friday, saying it supported \u201cappropriate science-based federal regulation of PFAS and the U.S. EPA\u2019s consideration of an enforceable, science-based national drinking water standard for PFOA and PFOS.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>[ad_2]<br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[ad_1] The Democratic-led House of Representatives on Friday voted 247-159 in favor of a bill that aims to crack down on \u201cforever chemicals\u201d that have been linked to a range of health problems.
