Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer within the Mechanical Ground Systems Engineering team. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA at Space Park.<\/p>\n
Mechanical Ground Systems Engineers support the design, fabrication, and use of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE). MGSE is non-flight hardware used to support the integration, test, and launch of spacecraft and its various stages of assembly. This includes, but is not limited to, lift slings, transportation systems, robotics, zero-g deployment fixtures, pneumatics, propellant loading systems, etc.<\/p>\n
Mechanical Ground Support Equipment Designers are responsible for the following:<\/p>\n
Design and Modeling in 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software<\/p>\n
Fundamental structural analysis techniques<\/p>\n
Drafting using CAD software<\/p>\n
Fabrication support at vendors including acceptance testing and inspection<\/p>\n
End-user support during integration operations<\/p>\n
Conceptual design<\/p>\n
Requirements definition<\/p>\n
Integration & Test process flow development<\/p>\n
As a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer, a qualified candidate is expected to be proficient in a majority of some design and analysis principles, processes, and tools. A qualified candidate who can demonstrate leadership abilities if \/ when they are necessary is preferable but not required.<\/p>\n

This position\u2019s standard work schedule is a 9\/80. The 9\/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.<\/p>\n
Basic Qualifications:<\/b><\/p>\n
Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution plus 9 years of engineering experience OR Masters of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution plus 7 years of engineering experience.<\/p>\n
Experience with design modeling and\/or drawing efforts using 3-D CAD modeling tools such as CATIA<\/p>\n
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance.<\/p>\n
Preferred Qualifications:<\/b><\/p>\n
Masters\u2019 Degree in Mechanical Engineering<\/p>\n
Previous experience in MGSE design, fabrication, and proof load testing<\/p>\n
Experience in structural analysis using hand-calculations and Finite Element Methods<\/p>\n
Active DoD Top Secret or SCI Access with a Single Scope background.<\/p>\n
Salary Range: $117,700.00 – $176,500.00<\/p>\n
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
