Emergence Health Holdings is seeking a full-time Medical Coding Specialist to support its growing platform of CareWell and ClearChoiceMD Urgent Care centers. This position is located in our corporate headquarters in Concord, NH. Our ideal candidate is friendly and has excellent communication skills and is comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

Job Title: Medical Coding Specialist

Job Summary: Working with and reporting to the Billing Supervisor, the Medical Coding Specialist is challenged to provide quality review and analysis of a wide range of patient medical records. Ensure accuracy of coding and maintain records in accordance with accepted medical and legal standards. Responsible for reviewing medical records to ensure proper billing on the visits. Comparison of physician chosen CPT and ICD10 codes to the documentation to substantiate the level of coding. Working closely with the Billing Supervisor to audit the accuracy of our external coding vendor.

Duties and Responsibilities: Medical Coding Specialist: tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Identify, compile and code patient data using ICD-10-CM, CPT, E&M and other standard classification coding systems
  • Compile, abstract and maintain patient records to document condition and treatment
  • Review records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulations
  • Efficiently analyze insurance claims independently before submission to ensure accuracy
  • Demonstrates proficiency in using payer and coding websites to stay up to date on coding issues
  • Protect the security of medial records IAW with federal HIPAA regulations
  • Performs coding and abstracting with a 95% or better accuracy

  • Experience with multi-site, individually credentialed facilities (Urgent Care, ASC, etc.) preferred
  • Knowledge of medical billing and customer service
  • Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills and negotiating skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding
  • Must display proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines at the same time
  • Must be able to work well independently

Key Competencies:

  • Intermediate to Advanced competency with Microsoft Office to include SharePoint, Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability in using computer and Windows PC applications including strong keyboard and navigation skills

Education & Experience:

  • Medical Billing Experience: 4 years (Required)
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certification (Preferred)
  • Health Information Management Certification (Preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make timely decisions
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of professional fee billing, reimbursement and third-party payer regulation and medical terminology is required
  • Experience with performance management strongly preferred
  • At least 18 years’ old
  • Are legally eligible to work in the United States

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands: This position entails a high level of work performed at a computer terminal throughout the day as well as the regular use of a telephone or headset equipment. On a regular basis, incumbent frequently performs repetitive motions at a computer terminal and is subject to prolonged sitting. Occasionally, eye hand coordination is required to operate office equipment. As this position performs customer service activities incumbents may periodically experience moderate levels of stress.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time hourly non-exempt position. A typical work schedule consists of weekdays 8am – 5:00pm. This is a hybrid role in which the employee would be required to be in the office a minimum of 2-3 days a week or more as needed.

Travel: No travel is expected for this position.
